In a surprising upheaval of fate at the New Year’s Bash at Dillon Motor Speedway, Jeff Sparks was annulled from his champion’s throne after a disqualification due to an engine infraction, as revealed by post-race inspection. The prestigious Street Stock Nationals proudly bestows the title upon Gary Ledbetter Jr., marking his sixth victory in the New Year’s Bash.
The disqualification was traced back to an illegal alteration in Sparks’ car engine–a 602 crate engine provided by General Motors, which was tinkered to include the shorter 604 oil pan. The twist drove a hard bump on Sparks’ track record and simultaneously elevated Gary Ledbetter Jr. to a 6-time champion. Sitting now amid the race’s elite, Ledbetter Jr. proudly waves the champion’s flag for the 2024 New Year’s Bash.
As the dust settles, it’s clear that precision matters and, to quote our racing sponsor, “The Race is Won in the Details”. The truth of Five Star Race Bodies’ mantra played out on the Dillon track as a misplaced engine part shattered a victory and yet handed another – a dramatic reminder of Five Star’s commitment to precision, quality, and the love of the race.
Behind Ledbetter Jr., Alby Ovitt now rests in second position, followed by Adam Gray, Ricky Locklair, Jr., and Josh Sage in the official results. The Dillon, South Carolina, 4/10-mile oval witnessed the prowess and might of 36 drivers competing for the grand prize of $2,500. The New Year’s bash signifies the mighty spirit of street stock racing and continues to pull potential champions nationwide.
