Moffitt’s Majestic Move Makes History!
Just when you thought Saturdays were for sleeping in or, perhaps, mowing that ever-growing lawn, Brett Moffitt decided to rewrite the rulebook on weekend excitements.
This isn’t Moffitt’s first rodeo, but when he squeezed through with a three-wide move during an overtime restart, it sure felt like he was introducing himself all over again. Call it a dramatic flair for the theatrics or just Moffitt doing Moffitt things, but snagging that victory in the Love’s RV Stop 250? Simply delicious.
“It’s pretty awesome,” the 31-year-old victor quipped. Now, there’s the king of understatement!
For those who might’ve missed a chapter or two, Moffitt is the 2018 series champion. But this little escapade was his first series race of the 2023 season, ending in, you guessed it, his first superspeedway win. Talk about making a grand entrance! Or would it be a re-entrance?
He continued, “I’ve notably struggled on the superspeedways in the past and dreaded coming to them.” Dread? More like bread because Moffitt sure made a sandwich out of the competition. But jokes aside, as he puts it, this win reminds him of “the good ole days.” And oh, we were right there reminiscing with him!
If Moffitt’s magic was the only highlight, we’d still have a full platter. But Talladega, being the cheeky track that it is, decided to turn the drama dial up to 11! Take the 10-truck accident, for instance. Two laps remaining, and bam! We’re in overtime.
Add to that, the Playoff mix. Ben Rhodes, even without leading a lap, finished in second. “This style of racing, you never know what to expect,’’ Rhodes mused. That is so true, Ben. That is so very true.
And let’s not overlook the playoff drivers—only three in the top-10. Nick Sanchez, who reigned most of the afternoon, got a slight bump due to a “pass-through” penalty. But the man bounced back, securing his place at seventh. He’s now geared up for the next race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, ranking fourth.
To sum it all up, the track was hot, the competition hotter, and Moffitt? Let’s just say he was the sizzle that made the steak perfect!
