Records tumbled, shockwaves echoed, and blistering speed demonstrated were the order of the day at the 38th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals. The near-capacity crowd got their money’s worth as Gaige Herrera on his Mission Foods/Vance & Hines Suzuki, swiftly zoomed past his rivals, setting an astonishing new national record in Pro Stock Motorcycle history.
Quoting Herrera after this historical run, he said, “We didn’t think it would be possible, but it was a picture-perfect run. It was so smooth it felt slow. We’re definitely happy about that, and I was almost more thrilled than when I win a race.” He went on to add, “I’ve got a fast motorcycle, and I feel if something doesn’t break and I don’t mess up, it’s going to be hard to beat us.” What a wily rascal, don’t you agree?
Then, Steve Torrence smoothly nabbed the No. 1 position in Top Fuel, pulling out an excellent run of 3.636s at a jaw-dropping 336.62mph in his Capco Contractors/Toyota dragster. “At this point, I’m probably more confident in my car than any other time in the season,” boasted Torrence after his blazing run. Seems like the Texas swagger is alive and kicking!
In Funny Car, Bob Tasca III lived up to his reputation. His Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang tore through the track, leaving the audience breathless with his track-record pass of 3.822s at 335.55mph. “We have one of the best cars on the planet right now, so you’ve got a lot of confidence”, said Tasca. Indeed, we do admire the confidence here, Bob!
Lastly, it was another day in the office for Greg Anderson in Pro Stock, stealing the thunder by securing the No. 1 qualifier position with a knockout run of 6.480s at 211.76mph in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro. Celebrating his achievement, Anderson said, “It was a great weekend so far in qualifying, and the bar has been raised in this class.”
