Anyone who underestimates the grit and determination of Deac McCaskill in the CARS LMSC Tour does so at their own risk. McCaskill, the elder statesman of the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour, proved again why he is a force to be reckoned with at South Boston Speedway on Saturday.
Driving his No. 08 Puryear Tank Lines Ford, McCaskill dominated the Autos By Nelson 250 pres. by Virginia is for Racing Lovers, leading from start to finish for his 11th career win in the series. The victory reflected McCaskill’s skill and experience, showcasing his ability to control the race from the outside pole.
“I was just driving the crap out of this car,” McCaskill declared after the race. “We got the clean air and the car was turning too good in the middle of the corner. We’ve had an up and down season, but two wins? You’ve got to be kidding me.”
McCaskill’s victory was not without its challenges. Driving for Kevin Harvick Inc., Layne Riggs did his best to overthrow McCaskill’s reign at South Boston Speedway. However, McCaskill’s expertise and defensive driving skills paid off, as he controlled the top groove and forced Riggs to attempt low-line passes repeatedly.
“I just needed track position,” said Riggs. “Deac is the master here, and he’s been racing the top around this track before I was even born. Even though we didn’t win the race, I still had a lot of fun.”
Riggs, whose first win with KHI at Caraway Speedway was taken away due to a post-race technical infraction, showed great determination and sportsmanship. The battle between McCaskill and Riggs provided an exciting spectacle for fans, showcasing the intense, gritty nature of short-track racing.
With his victory at South Boston Speedway, McCaskill proved that experience and skill triumph over monetary resources and high-tech gadgets. “We just work hard and don’t give up,” he said. “To come out here and compete with these teams up and down pit road is a blessing.”
As McCaskill savored his win, Riggs offered praise for his competitor and reflected on his own promising future in the sport. “Me and Deac are the only two people that can put that good of a race on. It’s been a crazy journey, and all the stars are starting to align for me,” Riggs shared.
The Autos By Nelson 250 pres. by Virginia is for Racing Lovers showcased the true essence of late-model stock car racing, with skilled drivers like McCaskill and Riggs displaying their talents on the track. It’s a reminder that in this sport, it’s not just about the size of the budget or the latest technology but about the drivers’ heart, determination, and skill.
