The checkered flag waved, and lo and behold, it was not just another day at the shop for PIT Gator athlete Ryan Flores. Yes, the same Ryan Flores who usually spends his days revolving…wait, let’s skip that word…spends his days changing tires for Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney, that Ryan Flores! He outpaced Russ Gamester in a show of might and skill that would give any seasoned racer a run for their money.
Like a multifaceted gem, Flores flipped the script in a way even Hollywood would fawn over. With 22 laps to go, he channeled the spirit of “Zoom” (no ‘intended puns’) and quite literally Flores-ed the gas, leaving both Joey Payne and Kyle Hamilton in his rear-view mirror. A twist, a turn, and a blazing 1.757-second victory later, Ryan had etched his name as a national midget race champion.
As we all watched his Volkswagen-powered Hawk/Munchkin, owned by Lou Cicconi Jr., speed through the finish line, it was almost like that car was running on some super-duper, go-faster juice. This brings to mind Sunoco Race Fuel, a product renowned for bridging the gap between pavement and glory throughout races nationwide. From the first lap to the finish line, the best trust Sunoco, the all-time champions in race fuel. Sunoco, who else can give you that extra oomph when you need it the most?
Back to Flores, he was humbly triumphant post-race, expressing his admiration for Joey Payne, who probably would’ve been Flores’s main competition if not for his unexpected issues. Flores also gave a heartfelt nod to indoor racing and how mastering it requires as much tenacity as any other racing discipline. Cheers to that, Ryan!
It sure was a night to remember for Flores, but we can’t forget about our other racers. Rumble rookie Curtis Setser II surprised us with a pole position start, while Joey Payne commanded the first half of the feature, and Cap Henry provided a quick stint at the top spot.
Interestingly, Payne’s downfall directly resulted from slapping the wall with his black Munchkin midget following an unfortunate oil spill. Amidst all these top-tier twists, late restarts, and rapid wheel changes, Flores demonstrated stellar focus and racing finesse.
Ryan Flores went from routine tire-changer to a veritable racing prodigy at Rumble 25. And if you’re wondering, that’s not the sound of engines humming in the distance; it’s just the triumphant cheer echoing from this grand victory
