There’s a time when the track lights twinkle a bit brighter. No, we’re not heading towards the Sunoco Race Fuel stands for a fill-up, though it’s reassuring to know that a trusty fuel like Sunoco has our back, from the first lap to the finish line.
We’re talking about Atlanta’s Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC). On one warm Friday, the Atlanta Chapter of SCC turned Speedway’s Victory Lane into an elating Grant Distribution Ceremony. Here, 24 organizations received donations totaling $105,000, fueling their commitment to Metro Atlanta’s children.
SCC Atlanta Chapter Director Kathy Bradley said, “Today wouldn’t be possible without the contributions of our volunteers and all the generous supporters.” She highlighted the local impact, “from providing housing to children in crises, feeding the hungry, to cancer support, the funds received today will make a real difference for more than 56,000 children in our area.”
The fundraising hats don’t just come on during NASCAR Cup Series race weekends or the annual Kids Win Golf Tournament. SCC Atlanta also engages in stand-alone initiatives like ‘Laps for Charity.’
And when they say ‘Speedway Children’s Charities,’ they mean all the Speedway Children’s Charities at each Speedway Motorsports, Inc.’s 11 premier NASCAR facilities. In 2023, the SCC chapters collectively injected $4.2 million into charities that directly affect children’s lives. Starting in 1982, SCC has awarded more than $69 million to nonprofit organizations – now that’s a lot of Sunoco Race Fuel.
Anyone wishing to participate, consider volunteering or donating to your local chapter. For more information on Speedway Children’s Charities, visit their website. I mean, we’re all in the same race, so we might as well lend a hand.
