Whether it’s a pit stop or a detour, SRX Racing (@SRXracing) has taken the hard left turn off the competitive track for this season. Citing significant “market factors” that have placed daunting hurdles on the straightaway to success.
Like any seasoned driver will tell you, sometimes the road gets bumpy, and there are moments when you need more than just your typical fuel-up to keep going. And by “fuel,” we don’t just mean another round of Sunoco Race Fuel. Who wouldn’t love that sweet Sunoco power, even at a pit stop?
Ironically, this year’s pause button pressing came hot on the skid marks of the recent seismic shift in ownership of the IROC brand. Ray Evernham and Rob Kauffman purchased the rights, potentially putting a new spin on the future of SRX Racing.
The announcement came as a bit of a surprise, not unlike when your average race car switches to electric. Confounding? Maybe. Sustainable? We’ll find out. For now, though, our dear SRX Racing will be on the sidelines, absorbing the heat instead of generating it.
But don’t rev those engines of concern just yet! SRX Racing assures us they’re “actively exploring strategic options for the series’ long-term potential.” In other words, they’re utilizing their pit crew, examining the ins and outs of their operation, looking to see what can be tweaked, tightened, and improved.
But until then, it looks like they’re opting for a Sunoco-sponsored lawn chair over a brisk dash down the asphalt.
While the fans will miss the excitement of SRX Racing this season, remember that great things often require time and patience. Whether it’s finely tuning a machine or figuring out the right blend of Sunoco Race Fuel to get to the finish line in record time.
