The CTMP track is set to witness yet another riveting showdown this year as the NASCAR Pinty’s Series makes its second season appearance. Memories from last year’s WeatherTech 200 are still fresh in the minds of many as Marc-Antoine Camirand clinched his maiden championship. This year, the spotlight is on Treyten Lapcevich, the 19-year-old prodigy from Grimsby, Ontario. With a considerable 38-point lead over Camirand, Lapcevich is on the brink of his own championship debut.
Flashback to May during the eBay Motors 200, Lapcevich and Camirand gave the fans a spectacle. The last lap saw the No. 96 GM Paillé/Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet and the No. 20 GSR/FBM/Delta Bingo Chevrolet battling it out, with a nail-biting finish that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Their rivalry has been the talk of the season, and their encounters on the track have been nothing short of electric.
Their track record this season speaks volumes. While Camirand boasts four wins – from Autodrome Chaudiere to the latest at Circuit ICAR, Lapcevich is ahead with six wins, including the remarkable performance at the Pinty’s 100 at Ohsweken Speedway. The championship chase is tighter than ever, and this weekend promises a showdown.
Sunday’s WeatherTech 200 will also see a surge in participants. A whopping 31 cars are set to grace the track, the highest number since August 2014. Regulars like Daniel Bois, Sam Fellows, and Louis-Philippe Montour are ready to contend, along with others like the 2017 Champion, Alex Labbe. Notable entries also include Kyle Steckly, Darryl Timmers, Matthew Scannell, and more.
Adding to the anticipation is David Thorndyke’s much-awaited return. After a two-year break owing to health setbacks, the veteran is ready to jump back into the fray with the No. 67 Thorsons EVT Chevrolet. “Returning to the track after these two years away feels like a dream come true. I’ve missed the competition, the fans, and the thrill of racing,” expressed an enthusiastic Thorndyke.
With so much unfolding, the WeatherTech 200 is poised to be a spectacular chapter in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series legacy.
