FAST FACTS:
Grand Prix of Denver Notes:
Sebastien Bourdais’ pole position today was the 24th of his career, moving him into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time Champ Car list. He moved ahead of Johnny Rutherford with today’s pole and is now just one behind Paul Tracy, who is seventh on the list.
Justin Wilson is sporting a new helmet design this weekend, wearing a helmet submitted through a contest conducted by the Boys and Girls Club of Denver. The helmet features an image of the Denver skyline and featured one of the city’s trademark sunsets. The helmet will be auctioned off after the race with the proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club.
Today’s qualifying was especially hard on the Champ Car rookies as the bottom six drivers on the final grid are all first-year Champ Car drivers. This is the second time this season that this has occurred, the first time coming on the streets of Toronto.
After failing to start in the top 10 for any of the first six races, Andrew Ranger of Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing has now started eighth or better in each of the last four events. He matched a season-high today by taking the sixth spot for tomorrow’s race.
