Sprint Cars Visit Nashville

April 8, 2004

NASHVILLE, TN. The Music City Motorplex will host the United States Auto Club (USAC) Valvoline Sprint Car Series Saturday night, April 10, in twin 77-lap races. The green flag will drop for the first event of the Music City 150 at 8 p.m.

Saturday night will mark the first visit for USAC to the Music City Motorplex, formerly known as Fairgrounds Speedway, in 40 years. The USAC Sprint Cars last raced on the historic five-eighths mile track on July 13, 1959.

Drivers from over eight states will square off in the twin 77-lap USAC feature events and will be competing for a $25,000 bonus for a clean sweep of both races. The second race of the evening will feature a complete inversion of the finishing order from the first event.

Spectator gates will open at 4 p.m. Saturday and time trials will be held at 6 p.m. Following the qualifying session, a driver autograph session will be held at 7 p.m. and will include Hermie Sadler, Mike Alexander, Bobby Hamilton, Chad Chafin and Frank Kimmel.

At the Music City Motorplex on the April 10, race fans who attend the Friday ARCA or the Saturday Busch race at the Nashville Super Speedway will be able to purchase four tickets for the price of two by presenting their Nashville Super Speedway ticket stub.

The race will include the top USAC stars including five-time "Little 500" winner Eric Gordon of Indianapolis, IN. Gordon, a USAC regular since the late-80s, has compiled a dozen victories in more than 250 National Sprint Car starts. In test sessions held in early March, Gordon toured the Music City Motorplex oval in sub 16-second laps, three seconds faster than the weekly NASCAR Late Models.

Because of the high speeds, the lower sections of the 15,000-seat grandstand area at the track will be closed to spectators.

Rounding out the racing action on Saturday, the Legends Cars will make their season debut with the top 20 cars setting the field for the Spring Fling 25. Ricky Bolden will lead the host of young guns against veterans such as Kyle Fletcher, Jesse Carter and John Hiatt.

General admission adult tickets for the April 10 Music City 150 start at $15 in advance and will be $18 at the gate.
